MEMORIES INTO MEMOIR II—A ‘WORDS ARE POWERFUL’ WORKSHOP

In this workshop, we will explore:
- The Five Necessary Elements Your Memoir must include: Your Truth; Your Theme; Your Unique Voice; Your Musings, told in First Person Narrative.
- A Powerful Theme to bind the pattern of your memories: Which thread of your life’s pattern will you follow? How does that choice affect your story?
- How to Use Layers of a Story to make your memoir compelling: Using the senses, setting, character development with those little telling details; and dialogue in place and time.
Join Ethel Lee-Miller and Beth Lane. Ethel and Beth have worked and played with words for over a decade, writing, reading and honing their craft. Ethel has her MA in Counseling and Beth decades of experience in the coaching field. Both are published authors and actively writing. Together they bring their writing and counseling skills to provide the best in how-to, content, and seminar environment.
There will be time for learning, writing, discussion and feedback in a safe and supportive atmosphere. This workshop is suitable for basic beginner to published authors beginning a new project.

DISTILLING THE STORY OR…HOW TO PUT THE MOONSHINE IN YOUR WRITING

- What is the Yeast of your story? How to decide what moves it forward and keeps it cookin'.
- What is your Sweetness and/or Sour Mash? How to decide what to include more of and what to leave out.
- Bottling Your ‘Shine’: Story mapping and word splashes to help you refine your story in a compelling (but legal) way!

BOOK IT — BOOK TALKS, READINGS, AND WRITING PROGRAMS
For the time I have to entertain and engage your audience (hour talk, half day/ full day seminars), I organize the talk by:
- Engage- Hear excerpts for entertainment and share the upbeat feeling of freedom I enjoyed with my twin sister and in our family during our childhood summers. This works for groups that are really stressed and just want to relax, and be entertained.
- Involve- Read/write for interaction. Share chapter excerpts that directly address twins, siblings, and family dynamics. This works well with groups that are very verbal, want to share, question, or compare their family experiences. Quick writes and share as desired.
- Read as a writer- Discussion of the writing process and memoir in particular. The process of writing, researching, rewrites, edits, sharing, and revisions. Five elements key to memoir. See first drafts, workshop results, final drafts, and manuscript submission, proofs, and the book. An interactive program with writing prompts and sharing.
Each approach includes a Q&A directly related to the book or topic.
